If you or a loved one took the popular blood thinner Xarelto and sustained serious injury, or a loved one died as the result of the negative side effects or a complication that arose from use of the drug, you have the right to pursue compensation for your losses.
Xarelto accounted for more adverse drug reaction reports in the Food & Drug Administration's (FDA) second quarter of 2016 than any other drug monitored by QuarterWatch, a publication of the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP).
Tens of thousands of lawsuits have already been filed and settled against Xarelto developers. You may benefit from this settlement. If your condition and situation do not match the terms for receiving money from the settlement fund, you can still file a lawsuit against the company for other problems with the drug that have caused you to suffer injury and damages.

Across the U.S., product liability attorneys are filing claims against Xarelto developers. The basis for these lawsuits includes:
- Negligence in manufacturing
- Improper testing of the drug

- Deceptive advertising
- Concealing evidence of the drug's dangers to the public and the government
- Misrepresentation of safety

Previous Lawsuits Against Xarelto Developers
The Washington Post reports that twenty-five thousand lawsuits against Bayer and Johnson & Johnson, developers of the popular blood thinner drug Xarelto, were settled in March 2019 in the amount of $775 million. The settlement amount will be paid to people who were affected by the drug's effect of uncontrollable and irreversible bleeding, which plaintiffs contended led to severe injuries and sometimes death.
Specifically, plaintiffs argued that the pharmaceutical companies did not warn the public about the bleeding risks associated with taking Xarelto. Had the public, including doctors and patients, been properly informed about these risks, serious injuries and death could have been prevented, according to the lawsuit.
All lawsuits that were pending at the time of the settlement were settled under the terms of the settlement.
More Recently Filed Xarelto Lawsuits Are Also Covered by March 2019 Settlement
The March 2019 Xarelto settlement also resolves newer claims, provided the plaintiffs
- Retained their attorneys for the Xarelto claim prior to March 11, 2019
- Registered prior to March 28, 2019
- Filed a civil action by April 4, 2019
If you believe you are eligible for this payout, call Tosi Law LLP at 888-312-2518. Our Xarelto lawsuit lawyers will review your claim and make sure you receive the compensation to which you are entitled.
Settlement Will Also Pay Out to New Claimants
The $775 million settlement will also include payouts, albeit substantially lower payments, to new claimants who were first prescribed the blood thinner on or after December 1, 2015 and/or whose first Xarelto-caused injury happened after March 1, 2016.
Known Side-Effects of Xarelto
The concerns raised by complications and even deaths caused by Xarelto have spawned mass tort lawsuits. Among the known side effects of the blood thinner drug are the following:
- Spinal hematomas
- Stroke
- Severe bleeding
- Internal bleeding
- Prolonged bleeding
- Brain hemorrhaging
- Heart attack
- Death
Years with No Antidote for Bleeding Side Effects
For a long while, the bleeding episodes prompted by Xarelto had no antidotes. Harvard Health Publishing reports that in May 2018, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved andexanet, the first antidote for reversing the bleeding side effects in people taking Xarelto. Being new to the scene, the antidote has not yet been well established, in terms of its effectiveness and safety. Furthermore, the drug is pricey and not widely available.
If you suffered severe bleeding, despite having been administered the andexanet antidote, call Tosi Law LLP today at 888-312-2518. We can review your case and discuss your options for a legal remedy for your losses.
Types of Damages You Might Collect in a Product Liability Lawsuit
When a product causes a person to suffer physical injury, this person can file a product liability claim against the product manufacturer—and possibly other entities throughout the product supply chain. This holds true for pharmaceutical drugs like Xarelto, just as it would for an airbag or hover board.
Although every case is different, some of the types of damages you could recover from your product liability lawsuit against the developers of Xarelto include:
- Medical costs
- Lost income and benefits
- Pain and suffering
- Mental anguish
- Diminished enjoyment of life
- Loss of consortium (spousal claim)
Furthermore, if you lost a loved due to complications from their use of Xarelto, you can pursue a wrongful death action. Tosi Law LLP can help you with this effort. Call us at 888-312-2518 to discuss what we can do for you.
Call Us for Help with Your Xarelto Lawsuit
Drug developers are charged with an inviolable duty to make products that are safe and to ensure that the public knows how to use these drugs safely. Any risks associated with a drug must be made known to the public via clear and visible warnings.
A failure to fulfill this duty places drug manufacturers at risk for being sued for the medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other damages you or your loved one suffered from use of the drug.
Johnson & Johnson and Bayer, as developers of Xarelto, are responsible for ensuring that the blood thinner is safe to use, properly tested, and appropriately labeled. When they fail to fulfill these essential duties, and you or a loved one suffers injury or death as a result, we are here to help you.
